Children's Cleanings, Exams, and Sealants

Routine cleanings and exams help catch issues early, before small problems turn into bigger ones. We check for cavities, monitor how permanent teeth are coming in, and talk through home care habits that make a difference between visits.

Dental sealants add a protective coating to the chewing surfaces of back teeth, where cavities tend to start first in kids. It is a quick, painless step that can meaningfully cut down on future decay in those hard-to-clean grooves.

What to Expect at Your Child's Visit

We want your child’s visits to feel calm and predictable rather than stressful, for both of you. During an exam, we use digital X-rays and intraoral cameras so you can see exactly what we see, which makes it easier to understand any recommendations without feeling like decisions are happening behind closed doors.

If your child feels anxious about dental visits, sedation options are available, and we would rather talk through that upfront than have a bad experience shape how they feel about the dentist going forward. Our goal is to make every visit as easy as possible, whether it is a routine cleaning or something more involved.

Fluoride Treatments and Crowns for Kids

Fluoride treatments strengthen enamel and help make teeth more resistant to the acids that cause cavities, which matters most while a child’s permanent teeth are still developing. We apply it as part of routine visits for kids who could use the extra protection.

When a child’s tooth has more significant decay or damage, crowns restore the tooth’s shape and function while it continues to serve its role until the permanent tooth is ready to take over.

Pulp Therapy for Baby Teeth

When a child’s baby tooth has a cavity that has reached the inner pulp, pulp therapy can treat the infected area and preserve the tooth rather than removing it outright. Keeping a baby tooth in place holds space for the permanent tooth underneath and helps guide it into the right position as your child grows.

We walk parents through exactly what pulp therapy involves before moving forward. If a tooth can be saved with this approach instead of an extraction, we will explain why that is usually the better outcome for your child’s long-term dental development.

Space Maintainers and Emergency Care for Kids

If a baby tooth is lost earlier than expected, a space maintainer can hold that spot open until the permanent tooth is ready to come in. Without one, nearby teeth can shift into the empty space, which sometimes leads to crowding once the permanent teeth arrive.

We also see kids for dental emergencies, whether that is a sudden toothache, a knocked-out tooth, or an injury that needs prompt attention. Getting a child seen quickly after a dental injury can make a real difference in how the tooth heals.

Insurance and Financing for Your Child's Care

Cost is often the first question parents have, and we would rather answer it clearly than have you guess. We are in-network with several major PPO carriers in the Ada County area, including Delta Dental of Idaho, Regence BlueCross BlueShield, and MetLife, so many families can use their existing benefits for their child’s visit.

If you do not have insurance, CareCredit financing is available to help spread out the cost of larger treatment, and our in-house membership plan gives uninsured families a predictable way to keep up with preventive care. We are happy to walk through what applies to your situation before your child’s appointment, not after.

Why Patients Choose Us

Tongue-Tie, Lip-Tie, and Silver Diamine Fluoride

Tongue-tie and lip-tie occur when a band of tissue restricts movement of the tongue or lip more than it should, which can affect feeding, speech, or oral hygiene as a child gets older. A simple release procedure can correct this restriction when it is needed.

Silver diamine fluoride, often shortened to SDF, is a liquid treatment that can stop a cavity from progressing without drilling or numbing, which makes it useful for very young kids or those who are not ready for more involved work yet.

I have seen a few dentists in the Treasure Valley and Dr. Lind is by far the best one! He takes his time with patients and explains the process of whatever procedures I’ve had done over the years in detail, answering any questions along the way. His staff and team of oral hygienists are top notch! I’ve typically had cleanings conducted 4 times a year and they always take the time to make small talk and ensure I’m comfortable through the cleaning experience. It’s not just enough to be a competent and professional dentist these days; especially with all the options available. I’ve had plenty of those over the years and the experience falls flat. Dr. Lind’s personalized and attentive approach goes the extra mile beyond professionalism and separates him from the rest of the competition. I’m also in the Army Guard and every year I have to get a dental form filled out for our Soldier Readiness Processing. In the past it was a hassle to get this form filled out and returned to me by other dental offices. I often waited for up to a week to get the form back, but not with SmileWorks! Dr. Lind is on top of it and I’ve typically received the form back the same day. I highly recommend Dr. Lind and SmileWorks for anyone who wants to be treated with the utmost care and attentiveness for all your dental needs. 5-Stars All The Way!!!

Just moved to Idaho and broke a tooth. I called Smileworks as a referral from a friend. The staff was pleasant and friendly. I was seen quickly and had all of my questions answered. They set up a treatment plan for me and explained the charges along with my insurance payments. This was a great experience for someone who doesn’t like the dentist. I have a second appointment to fix my tooth, build the crown and a filling all in the same day.

My 92 yr old mother has been going to Dr Lind and Smileworks for nearly two decades. He and his team are the best dental office she has ever had. They have worked skillfully and tirelessly to preserve her teeth, which have been poor all her life. Smileworks are consummate professionals in all aspects of dentistry, including in the latest advances in technology. Dr Lind even made a house call to my mother’s assisted living facility to ensure her smooth recovery from a procedure. Because of my mother’s experience, my spouse and I became patients when we moved to Idaho six years ago. Same outstanding care and assessments from each of us, with a bonus. My spouse has mild-moderate sleep apnea. Dr Lind is also expert in treating this condition with an oral appliance. Smileworks has mitigated the problem nearly completely, without the misery of a CPAP machine. We are nearly 70, and have lived around the world. Smileworks is the best dentistry team we have ever found. Period. Dr Lind is also a leader and skilled trainer. He has built and maintained a top flight team. Smileworks has an excellent in-house insurance plan. We recommend you take the opportunity to place this important part of your health care in the best hands.
